The UX of Silence: Who Are We When the Interface Disappears?

Saturday, February 28, 2028 | Calgary Central Library

The future is silent. As devices like AlterEgo and BCI read subconscious intent, the screen, voice command, and even the “click” disappear. The critical question: What is UX when the interface is internal thought? This provocative talk sows the seeds of a near-future vision, challenging designers to redefine their role – not as visual creators, but as cognitive governors, advocating for user agency, trust, and the right to think privately.

Attendees will leave with the thought-provoking idea of a near-future Zero UI era where silent thought is input. They will begin thinking more deeply about the UX role shift to Cognitive Governor or Trust Architect, understanding the crucial need for ‘Intentional Friction’ to protect user agency. This session will highlight the move from visual design to ethical debate and system governance.
